Today marks 3 years since my fairytale wedding to my husband Lucas Charles 🙂 That evening was truly something out of a movie. Growing up Father of the Bride was one of my favorite movies. I would always watch it with my parents.
I always dreamed of the day that I would get to marry the love of my life. I also dreamed of all the fun details – the church, the venue, the dancing, the dress, the flowers and the decor!
I had known since 2nd grade that I wanted a winter wedding and which church I would love to get married in – thanks to a family friend who gave me the inspiration! And guess what? I got to have both! Dreams do come true…thank you dad! 🙂
The most time consuming part of planning our wedding was coordinating the decorations. I wanted a winter feel – not Christmas themed. Therefore, I opted for a ton of crystal, mercury glass, gold accents, evergreens and pops of red and pink flowers!
One of the most important things I can stress to girls (and their mothers who are helping!) plan the big day…stick to what you LOVE! Not necessarily, what is the current fad. You want to look back on your big day and feel like it shows your true style and not what is just popular at the time.
I wanted a classic, formal winter evening wedding. I can safely say that still is not the “style” around this are of the country. Most of the weddings in Kansas City are a lot less formal. Which is awesome for those brides…it just is not me. I think I was born in the wrong time period 🙂 – I LOVE the classics.
Some of the easiest ways to add decor touches for your wedding are by signs, unique table numbers, picture frames, hurricane glasses, lanterns, pedestals and many nic-nacs!
The biggest way you can add a wow factor is my favorite thing to add to décor – FLORALS! I love flowers and greenery and this was one of our main concerns. I am very picky when it comes to flowers and feel our florist did a great job capturing my vision at an “off” time of the year. We added florals everywhere and had greenery throughout every table.
You can use a ton of candles in all different varieties to add depth. In addition, my biggest piece of advice is layer-layer-layer! If you think you have enough nic-nacs on the tables…add a little more! I really think this makes the difference in a table that is nice and one that POPS! Because of the time of year – we used mercury glass prisms and crystal beads to add the final touches.
Whatever you chose to do for the big day – make it yours! I love traditional decor, gold accents and lots of greenery and florals. Even 3 years later I still love to look at our pictures of our day.
